Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders
What are Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders?
A Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) is an umbrella term used to describe a cluster of mental health challenges that occur during pregnancy or within the first year postpartum.
While many people are familiar with Postpartum Depression, PMADs include a much broader range of experiences. They are distinct from the "Baby Blues"—which typically resolve within two weeks—because they are more intense, last longer, and often require professional intervention to manage.

Navigating the Unplanned
The transition to parenthood often feels like a loss of identity—a blurring of boundaries where your needs are consistently sidelined. Therapy offers a space to pause and reevaluate, helping you understand the difference between the expected exhaustion of a new parent and the heavy, intrusive weight of a PMAD. Together, we’ll work to restore your boundaries, navigate the shift in your identity, and create a sustainable path forward that moves you from simply surviving to feeling truly supported and seen.
